Verification
MSU is required to verify data you supplied on your Federal Application for Student Aid (FAFSA) in cases where it appears errors may have been made.
We also participate in the Institutional Quality Assurance Program (IQAP), program, which may require additional verification.
If we need to verify your application, we'll contact you by email or U.S. mail, or notify you in StuInfo/eFinaid, explaining what additional information or documentation is needed.
Don't send us documents until we request them. This may delay your processing.
Your aid is preliminary until review is complete
Preliminary awards are ESTIMATES based upon the data we received from you on the FAFSA and are designed to give you the best available data at the time in order to assist you in planning costs for the academic year. If your aid package is preliminary, StuInfo/eFinaid will indicate this.
We'll review your FAFSA data once you have sent us all requested documentation. We will correct your FAFSA if indicated and recalculate your Expected Family Contribution (EFC).
Your financial aid may change as a result of review. If aid has already been paid to you, it may be billed back. If your aid changes we'll notify you.
Tips for successful FAFSA filing and verification:
- File your FAFSA correctly, and sign it with your PIN
- Review your Student Aid Report (SAR) and make corrections online as soon as possible to ensure that we receive your correct data prior to awarding your financial aid
- Respond promptly to all follow-up requests in order to help us to finalize your aid package early
