The Department of Education recently notified all FAFSA filers for 2012-13 to update their FAFSA data once they have filed their tax return(s). However, the e-mail stated in error that the federal tax filing deadline has passed. You should disregard that sentence. The federal tax deadline this year is April 17, 2012.
The federal government has eliminated Pell Grants for summer semester for students who received their full award amount during the prior fall and spring semesters. More information is available at Financial Aid for Summer Semester.
